PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Technical Theatre program explores the world of technical theatre while offering students "real-world" experiences. Students in the program learn how to use the tools and software associated with scenic, costume, lighting, sound, makeup, and props and they put their knowledge to practice as they design and build sets for yearly theatre productions.

IN PROGRAM PURSUITS
Here are some of the things you can look forward to while in the program:
WORK BASED LEARNING
Students use industry standard tools and software to build and design the technical elements for theatrical productions. Students are treated like a professional design team and participate in regular production meetings, read rehearsal reports, and are expected to meet the deadlines in order to make the productions possible.
Hands on work with construction tools and materials, sewing and costume design, painting, and software programming.They are treated like a professional design team and participate in regular production meetings, read rehearsal reports, and are expected to meet the deadlines in order to make the productions possible.In addition, they will be in an active theatre environment learning time management, self motivation, and responsibility.

Field Trip Experiences
PROJECTS
Students design and build for the several theatre productions. Part of this includes a Post-Show Tech Tour, where the student designers get to present their design concepts to the audience.
Students attend regional and state Thespian festivals and compete in tech presentations, as well as team tech challenges.
Students regularly attend field trips to see professional theatre works and participate in workshops and theatre tours with industry professionals.

Empire High Technical Theatre is an award winning program which explores the world of technical theatre while offering students "real-world" experiences. Students in the program learn how to use the tools and software associated with scenic, costume, lighting, sound, makeup, and props and they put their knowledge to practice as they design and build Empire's yearly theatre productions. Students also have many opportunities to compete and explore the industry through workshops and field trips. Several students who have graduated from the technical theatre program have gone on to successful work in the industry.
